Making my first trip to the lake Aug 17-20, not taking a boat though. We bought an Rv and have been taking short trips to different locations in anticipation of my wife retiring this fall and getting longer trips in. Practice trip.
Staying at #67 in Hawthorn camp ground close to the fishing dock. Come by and have a beer!

Caught a few last Saturday with my buddy Dudley. Didn't catch a bunch of big fish but we kept 42 over 10", caught more than twice that all together. All of them caught on jigs. Kept thinkin maybe the bigger fish wanted minnows that day. Typical summertime fishin on the Big O.

CW, that looks like the same bunch we had but we went through 3/4lb of minnows. Hard to find fish of any size. Fishing out of Red Bud.

Anybody ever fish the upper end of Spencer Creek in the standing timber?

Fished it pretty hard one day last September and caught one 13" crappie. And that was all we caught.
ko4nrbs thanked you for this post
I caught 45 Crappie over two days of trolling along the Spencer Bluffs. Had to work hard for them but learned a lot about the terrain under the water. Not very impressive quanities but made a few good meals. No dinks but no 1 1/2 or 2 slabs either.
Caught most of them on this Beetle Spin. $.82 at WalMart. Was using a 3 way rig with a 1/2 ounce weight.

I was there Wednesday in the Green/White Fisher deep-vee. Only caught 2 crappie then and one Hybrid. I wish I would have known it was you. Would have been great to finally meet you. Next time I'll make it a point to get up with you.
I'm on the hunt for their travel corridors to and from the bluffs. I suspect they are suspended somewhere in the flats between the bluffs and Goose Island. That puts them close to the deep water along the river channel. Not having much luck locating brush piles so I decided to try trolling crank baits and Beetle Spins.
This is also a favorite for Oologah Crappie and Sand Bass/Hybrids: Was my go to lure at Choteau Bend when the sand bass were spawning.

Less than two dollars at Walmart. I've left more than a few attached to the lake bottom.
