out of blue creek headed north out on the big flat around daylight you can start trolling cranks in red or firetiger type colors get out around 10 feet dig them in the bottom then ease up so you know they are just off bottom you should get some walleyes like that this is a good area for that might get just inside the river chanel could be better

Fished from 6 to 12:30 with one of my buddies today and sure enjoyed the company. We didn't do too bad, we brought home 22 keepers and caught another 10 throwbacks. We caught a nice bass and catfish too. On average, the crappie were smaller today than in weeks past. We didn't have any 13 or 14 inch fish today. Seemed kinda odd, but it happens every once in a while. The bites were lite early and picked up into hard thumps later in the day. We fished the main lake early till around 10 then went back into one of the creeks, fishing brush piles in 11 to 17 FOW. We caught our fish on jigs and tight lining and drop shotting minnows. Got on a trend at the end of the day using a jig with a minnow and pulled quite a few out of one pile that way. One crappie darn near knocked the rod out of my hand he hit so hard on the jig and minnow combo. That one hit was worth the whole trip, it was vicious.

I didn't do near as good Kevin. I fished some of the new pile that we dropped yesterday. Several were already holding baitfish and Crappie 10" and under. I must have caught around 30 fish or more today, but only 4 were 10" and barely that. You're right about the hard hits! Even the little ones were thumping the heck out of my jig. I found myself deploying all 4 anchors so I could position the boat just right to get the most out of the umbrella. I was happy the new piles were already attracting Crappie. I had hits from the tops of them to all the way down the sides to the bottom. I'm not near finished with dropping brush either. I'm going to try and pick up more pallets as soon as I can. The next piles will have some 3-5" branches nailed to them along with some smaller branches stuffed through the triangle of the pallets to create some thicker structure within a couple of feet from the bottom.

On another note, I sure looked good sporting the Crappie.com shirt this evening when I took the daughters into CC's.

I ended up taking my grandsons to Gibson where we caught 15 sandies on Monday and 61 on Wednesday. They are only 6 and 8 years old and I realized that crappie require a little more finesse than these boys posses! Sand bass on rattle traps set the hook on themselves so they had the time of their lives cranking em in. Next week I will get back on oologah brush piles and let you know if they are so on that any idiot can catch them. Thanks Big George for the walleye tips. I will check it out. I eat a lot of fish but walleye are my favorite and so easy to fillet.

Dinobot and I will be in search mode around 6 am. One of my daughters and I went out this evening for about 3 hours looking for some of the bigger fish. All week the dinks have ruled about 11' down around brush, so we went over to Stout Creek to fish the stumps. Didn't get a bite. Took off across towards Talala Creek and fished some 24' deep water and had one thump a couple of feet off the bottom. Results was one 12" Crappie. No other bites, cruised over another deep water pile I know of and saw fish on the down scan about 20' down. I think Scott and I will start deep in the morning. Water temp was around 93!!! Could explain things. We might have to stay close to deep water. Thinking about pulling an all nighter with minnows Saturday night under the black light. So many shad around that I don't think a submerged light would help much but it might.

    Default Oologah Lake Report

Dinobot and I caught a mess of Crappie this morning staying out until around 1:30. From 6' to 20', most fish caught in the 12' range over and in brush. He caught the first and the biggest.

Had a great time as it was Scotts second time to come out to play on the water with me. I'm just glad we were able to catch something worth keeping!

But he spanked me in numbers. Total count on cleaned fish 23 crappie 1 cat. 3 crappie over 13" and one 14" caught on queue. just over 4lbs of crappie fillets. For all the talk you were giving me about nothing but dinks in that area lately it sure was a great day. Can't wait to go trolling cranks for catfish again lol.

Friday afternoon I fished the timber in Spencer Creek dipping jigs. Not much luck. About 3 summers ago I had a blast in there all summer but haven't done much since then. I will be moving out to the brush piles for the rest of the summer.

It's the same way for Talala Creek area around the brush. We got lucky coming across the particular spot because every other place was void of bites. I think being close to water over 25' deep may have something to do with it. They will go shallow, but only if they have a close escape route.

Word is Todd has been guiding on Oologah lately and doing very well.
