I fished yesterday from 1 to 530 and kept 13 nice fish. Threw back 7-10 small fish. The lake was still on a steady rise and pretty muddy. I caught all my fish in 4-15 fow, down in the brush. Best colors were 1/4 char head with large blk/char beavertail and 1/4 oz orange head with large pump/char beavertail. Had at least 3 more keepers to the top of the water and they popped off. Some of the fish just hammered it and sometimes it just got heavy. The bite was funny, you had to be in the brush. I missed probably 10 bites that I never even hooked the fish. Looks like Oologah is going top out around 5 feet unless we get more rain. The inflow has almost stopped. We may be able to get another shot at the spawn if it stabilizes in a couple of days.

Good report guys, enjoyed reading it. Glad you two got together and double-teamed them, it makes a difference when you have two guys that are good fishermen working all the angles.

Its so much more fun to have a fishing partner too, yesterday evening Leland went with me here on Eufaula and we sure had a good time.

Thanks for sharing your trip with us.Thumbs Up

    Default Oologah 4-28-11

Made it out about 10 today and fished until 530. Pretty tough day, we did manage to keep 21 good fish, but we had to work to get them. Caught some in 22 fow and some in 22 inches of water. No real pattern, we just kept moving. Best colors were blk/char and pump/char. Water temps ranged from mid 50's to low 60's. Water clarity really not all that bad. Talked to several other guys and most said it was very tough.

Went Saturday and I'm convinced I have to be the current dink champion of Oologah lake. I did manage to bring home 14 keepers, but I caught at least 40 fish to do that. I must have something that's attracting the little ones, I'm gonna blame it on the new type of line I'm using. It's been absolutely like crappie preschool in my boat the last 2 weekends. I guess I shouldn't complain, they were fun to catch. Maybe it was the big sow I lost first thing in the morning. I'm gonna blame losing her on my new weedless sickle jigs that look like they don't have a barb big enough to hold a minnow that gets agitated. We'll it definitely wasn't me, I had her up on top of the water long enough to see she had to go at least 2lbs and she turned her head and that sickle jig gave up like a wuss and shot right back at me. I reckon it was all down hill after that cause that sow sicked her young'uns on me. Man it's tough fishin without a partner, I had someone to blame when I had a partner, life was good. Guess I can blame it on Reaper too, he stopped by for a while and that horn on his boat probably scared the big ones away. OK, I feel better now, I just needed to vent.

The bigger fish were on the banks prior to the big rain. After that, a few decent fish could and can be had 16" deep within 2' of the bank in the right areas. Dunno what happened to the bigger fish in bulk as the dinks have been the major biters since the rains. It seems to be hit and miss. I figured out that most all brush down to 14' are holding fish but by the same token, I'm catching 2-5 keepers off each and the rest are dinks. I had been staying too long in one area. My next trip out will be raids on several piles known to me and I might go on an exploratory mission too boot. I've got plenty of Crappie in zero degree mode and am more or less going into a catch and release status very soon. I released about 10 Saturday that were in the 10" range and kept a couple of them.

Gave what I had to Kelly Davis, a.k.a. "Slip Shot". He was camping at Hawthorne with his family and friends. Kelly is a certified boat mechanic and he was going to look into a problem I was having with my Merc while on his vacation. What a guy! Anyway, it's amazing what 3 new spark plugs will do and the Merc straightened right up with no need to interupt his play time. I gave him a call Saturday morning to let him know the plugs took care of the issue and invited him to trailer his boat to where I was. Hopefully I was able to put him on a few more fish than he had caught the day before.

Thanks Kelly! Anyway guys and gals, ANY issues you might have with your motor in the Tulsa and surrounding area, I encourage you to give Kelly a call. PM me for his number.

Kevin, next time you're out that way, head around the point and try out that brushpile I told you about. It's pretty good right now with the water a little up.

Today and yesterday were beautiful days. Anyone had a chance to get out to the banks and see if the spawn
is going to continue ? Sure hate to think it might be done.

I did ok last Monday, but didn't set the world on fire. Caught about a half dozen 10"ers, 4 or 5 dinks, and
two really nice ones. The two big-uns were bulging with eggs. This was over a 6 hour period, from the bank,
using minnows around the Spencer Creek area.

Not a fantastic report, but even a slow day fishing.... is a good day.

Any other bank fishing reports ? Pitch in and let us know how it's going .

I haven't been to Oologah in a couple weeks. Was going to go last weekend but had a date with Lake Fork instead. I'll be out this weekend for sure, hope to have a good report for you all.

Went up to Spencer Creek for a while yesterday. Caught only 1 10" Crappie. A couple of guys up
the bank from me caught a 10", and 2 nice females, again.. bulging with eggs. They gave them to my wife
and she fileted out about 1 and 1/4 lb. of meat, including the one I caught.

Very slow biting from the bank on minnows. But at least I didn't get skunked... and the wife got some
    filets.........

Seeing that the smaller males are still up by the banks, and the females are still bulging with eggs......
maybe the spawn isn't completely over.

Let us know how it's going along the banks for the rest of you bank-bound fishermen !

If anyone has any tips on bank fishing around Oologah, I sure would be appreciative. I haven't
been able to fish much for a couple years...... and need to fill up some freezer space that's been vacant
    way too long.

Talked to a regular at Oologah this morning and they said they absolutely killed them on the banks yesterday. We fished the same area this morning without much success.
My locator was showing most water was still in the high 50's or low 60's. I left before noon so don't know how it got later on as the water warmed a degree or two. Will give it another shot tomorrow.
