How did you fish for those suspended fish! I can't see what they are relating to unless it's that small ledge?
Fishing is great on the lake as usual . We didn't catch any monsters, but lot of good eaters. Most fish we near ledges with others tight to cover, pattern should change in a couple weeks with the temperature changes.
We knew it would be a good day when I saw this one the graph.
Again no bragging sizes but a lot of 12-13" fish. Kept 48, tossed back more than that many.

I fished the big E recently in some standing timber areas and brush piles. There were schools and scattered fish from 15 to 2 feet, mostly small fish in the deeper areas. If you see fish schooled up on timber or brush at 7-12, don't even bother with them, they are dinks. Best fishing for decent fish was 4'-6' right on the timber in 5.5-6.5 feet of water. It payed to drive around and check with your finder before you fish, I hit a hundred yard stretch that had a fish or two on each tree at 5.5' to 6.5. I could clearly see the fish on the finder and that they were bigger than the average for that day. Mid lake clarity was 2 foot, up in the timbered arms I checked it was 6-8 inches.

They were on the flat with a ledge just off the graph on the left.
I'm not sure what has happened, but Lake Eufaula is not nearly the lake for crappie it used to be.

Stink, initially I would have to agree with you. However, i see some of the reports from EB, Ranger, and others on c.c, and I have came to the conclusion that I just flat don't know what I'm doing.
In my opinion, the lakes "cycle". The spots that I caught them in last year might not hold anything this year. Structures, bottoms, and even brush piles change and move. I believe that we just have to find new areas, new brush, new docks, etc. I keep a lot of brush under my dock. Some years I tore the fish up, other years, they were few and far berween. It WILL come back, just a matter of when.

Stink I was down in your area Monday with Charlie and we cleaned 63, fished for 5 hours. We could of kept a full limit if we wanted to keep 10" fish easily. These fish were in piles we built 3 years ago not all piles held fish, and the ones I thought that would be holding fish were not. Just goes to show you sometimes I just can't out think myself. You guys that have the big fancy boats that skim along the top of the water at 60mph and possess the side imaging and down imaging sonar that gives you the low down on schools of fish definitely don't face the same issues as most of us. I compare my success to the success over the last 30 years and I can see a large difference. When I lived in Ada or Shawnee, I always caught fish when I came over to Eufaula, always. No reason to make a 200 mile round trip if I got skunked every time. I loved coming over and enjoying taking home a large catch of crappie. I first began to notice a change about 5 years ago, living and fishing on the lake almost every day. They just weren't there like they used to be. I realize the spawns have been off the last few years, but you could still catch a mess during the Spring spawn. Didn't need a boat or sonar, just a good fishing pole, a good spot, and patience.
I haven't caught fish all summer long and the dock I fish off has a history of a producing area for crappie. I'm almost ready to sell my place and move back over close to Ada, be close to my family. One of the reasons I moved and built a place here was so my family could come over and fish. We all love to fish, but the last couple of years, I have had to tell my family members, no sense in coming over, they're either not here or not biting.
This isn't just an old man griping because he hasn't been catching fish, this is a guy that knows how to catch them and has had little or no luck for so long, that I am just about ready to say the hell with it and move on. They're not here like they used to be..........and that's a fact.

Hey Mark, a couple of weeks ago I was catching tons of small ones. I switched to a 1/4 TT bladed jig with big bright Mo magic plastics and fished 12-14 feet deep (which was 5 deeper than the small fish). I did really well on bigger fish, nothing huge but nice 1 to 1.75 lbs. My previous couple trips I was struggling to catch any decent fish. I could catch as many small crappie on shad looking 1" hair jigs as I wanted, it got ridiculous, I had to try something different.

Jim one thing is for sure. The lake is older and the structure has changed. From the low lake levels where the surmerged wood use to be now is gone cause it got air. From the high water issues we have had has changed a few things as well where I have been fishing is all man made structure. I will say areas that should be loaded with fish (my thinking) on structure you can't get a bite. Others in the same area that haven't produced or held any numbers in the past years are loaded. Makes no sense. All I can say with the declining amount of structure in our waters makes for a tough day for bank fisherman. I can and do understand the frustration even being an avid fisherman, with fish movement each day, even makes it tough on us boaters at times. I guess what I'm saying is we all need to add structure to our favorite waters to become successful. If you look at Tood, EB, George, or myself the reason we are constantly catching fish is due to the amount of structure we place in the waters we fish. For an example on the north end we (Brian, Doug, JD, myself) were fishing and couldn't catch enough for supper. We scheduled a pile day since most of the structure had disappeared, and added 30 persimmon piles in a 4 mile area. They have been in for 5 years now and need to be sweetened some but we can usually on a daily basis catch numbers from those piles we added. I don't have the answer other than put in structure. Crappie like most predator fish are structure ordinated and relate to it. Good Luck Buddy and if I can help in anyway you have my #........Ranger
