Dude, if you have insurance on that boat turn in a claim. I'm sure your lower unit went out because you "hit an obstruction." Same thing happened to me 4 years ago. In March. 150 merc 2 stroke. Took it to Wilson's marine in edmond. I had a new lower unit and prop in less than 2 weeks for $250. Deductible. Because I "hit an obstruction." There are all kinds of unseen obstacles under water. Something caused the loss.

My boats 10 yrs old. I carried insurance on it when it was newer but don't anymore. Got the lower unit back together Friday and it's good to go. I did learn a couple things from this. One is never hit a stump in reverse because the clutch is locked and there's no give and two get several price quotes on parts. I had several dealers quote my prop shaft at 800.00 and found one for 320.00 and both were genuine mercury parts. There was a 60 % mark up on parts so shop around. Don't mind paying 10 to 20 % markup on parts but 60 t 70 % is ridiculous when they charge 110.00 an hour labor. Some dealers wanted 2,500 dollars for parts an labor and I ended up doing it myself for 1,100.

After seeing your earlier post I did talk to Kelly and he is a great guy. He was really covered up so I repaired it myself. I will take mine to Kelly in the future if it's something over my head.
Did anyone see the fire at the marina last night?
Caught one today that looked like she had tried to put that fire out with her tail. She didn't like hanging out with all those dinks in that muddy lake so I arranged a transfer to my back yard- 2lbs 4 oz.
