X2 on the red beans and rice and gumbo etc. and no question that when you go south the crappie seem to grow faster and bigger but like SC said, lots of really good water around and ditto for good fishermen who will be quick to answer any questions you might have about local seasonal patterns. Don't give up on us now!

You must not be hitting the right lakes then.

mike, there are probably more than a few guys around here who would admit that your claim is correct, IF you invite them to a trip where they can nail some 3+ pound crappie.

Hit LCB yesterday for a quick trip to test the evening bite. On water at 630ish off the water at 830. Fish were on structure pretty good in 18-19' in main lake. Fished 13/14' deep and started with a couple bigger 3.5" baits and got a ton of light bites but never could get the hook set. Switched to a couple 2" baits and caught a ton of small fish. Moved to a larger profile 3" Slab Slayer (lights out) on 1/8oz Chart head and SlabSlobber. That was the ticket to getting the bigger fish. Fish were hitting hard. I lost a couple at the boat due to weak hook sets so I quickly made the change to harder sets and had no problems. Water clarity was good, atleast 14" visibility. Didn't pay attention to WT but I am sure it was 88-89 degrees. Was not that refreshing when I took a quick dip to try and cool off. TONS of boat traffic yesterday. Was a great day with no winds so every Jet Ski and Wake Board boat in the area was out in the main lake. This weekend will prob be crowded. Fish house was slow according to a few that had been fishing for crappie and had switched to catfishing right before I got there. Kept a couple short fish due to them not making it after being released. No reason to let them go to waste. Will be back on it next week!!!

Excellent report! Thanks for the info! Have you heard anything about the saugeye/walleye bite?

Crappiefool41, I have not heard anything about the saugeye. Was getting great reports for a while but then they kinda slowed down and the fishing along with the saugeye bite. Hybrids were active this morning on live shad on North side. Channel cat is excellent on shad, liver and prepared baits. Sorry i couldnt give you more positive info on the saugeye. I just have not heard anything about them for a while.

Crappiefool41, A friend of mine went last Sunday and the Saugeye bite was a NOT. He caught zero eyes and only saw four or five small ones boated. He only fished the Northside don't know if other areas of the lake are producing

swollen and rdjj, I really appreciate the reports on the eye fishing! I will be in Stillwater over the next few weeks for work so I hope to get on Blackwell at some point. Unfortunately I will more than likely have to tow my trailer filled with materials so I won't have my boat. I'll be the guy at the dock driving everyone crazy asking them how deep, minnow, jig, color, size, etc. after every crappie I see caught! And don't worry, I've got plenty of slab slobber!

Please let me know if you hear anything else on the eye fishing. I was able to catch a handful of them out of Oologah this summer and thoroughly enjoyed it. I love crappie fishing, but it's nice to mix it up every once in a while.

    Thanks!
