I fished Kaw Sat the 18th with a friend who really doesn't like to fish for crappie, so I told him the hybrids would be around the standing timber Lol. We did find some nice hybrids but I also picked up 3 nice crappie and it turns out that hybrids like little BG baby shad, who knew? So I went back by myself yesterday to fish exclusively for crappie. The wind was bad and blowing straight thru the areas I wanted to hit, had to tie up to the trees I wanted to fish alot of the time. Also had a trolling motor battery issue, after 3 hours on max setting it gave out so I had to motor around and tie off. Despite the obstacles of the day, ended up with 6 nice fish, biggest was 15 1/2 inches. They were in 12-15 FOW, if you could find a bottom edge at 12' deep with timber,it was a sure bite. Never more than one fish to a spot, I guess they were pretty well scattered. I really like this lake, its too bad its a 2 hour drive.

Nice fish. I've been wanting to fish Kaw for awhile but don't know anything about where to start. I've bird hunted on the north end but never been on it fishing. It's even more of a drive for me from SW OKC. Any hints on where to put in at or the general area of the lake for Crappie.

I put in at the Corps launch off highway 11 just as you cross mid lake. This time of year I look for coves with timber on google earth and motor over to the areas to check them out. As this was only the 2nd time fishing the lake I would not be much help pointing you in the right direction. I have turkey hunted the upper end, I noticed several boaters and shore angles fishing for crappie in the spring along the creeks. Lots of cover up there and a couple of deep creeks that come in. There are two long rip-rap areas along roads that cross the lake if you like that. From my limited scouting about it looks like there are some of rock ledges and rock piles mid lake along the east side that would be worth fishing.

Thanks - that should get me started. I hope to make a run up there in the next week or so.

You bet! I am going to keep working on fishing that lake and try to get a decent day out there. I want a day I can really get after them without all the problems. I need to get an earlier start and less wind!

Fishers, I agree, too bad it's a two hr drive from SS, but I have heard lots of good things about Kaw. Keystone was a reall slow bite yesterdat for crappie (got 4) but picked up 18 sand bass up by Walnut Creek. Sorry about the trolling motor problems, hope you get it worked out. I had trailer light problems this week end buy finally my genius friend figured it out for me.

Yeah, I know what you mean, I have been blowing fuses. I am going to rewire my trailer Fri. I am tired of the leaky connections by the hitch. Picked up a 24 foot wiring kit at auto zone that comes complete with the 4 pin flat connector so there wont be any type of connection between the truck plug in and the lights. It was only 12.00$, cant beat that with a stick.

I fished Kaw saterday from 1 to 6 pm. Kept 8 nice fish from 12-14 inches, lost 2 bigger ones and threw back 3 or so smaller ones. Great day to be on the water. I also saw a nice buck swimming the lake, took some good pics and video. From his position and heading had had swam about one mile before I intercepted him. I had no idea deer were such strong swimmers. When I headed his direction, that boy took off. It looked like he got up on plane like a boat when he started kicking in high gear, his body elevated about a foot above were it was at his slower speed. Phelps wishes he could swim that fast!
