I was one of the guys that went blindly into brush piles near the bank during spawn and caught a few.Gotta have tiny minnows, or tiny jigs.
One day on the lake with those guys was mind boggling.
Braided line, big jig heads, long tails, were unheard of.

I'm working on improving, and watching these OKLA threads to learn from you guys. I was at the Kaw weigh in, and was impressed with the catch.
I know what you mean, I hired EB one day to shake me out of my preconceptions about crappie. I kept reading on CDC about the big jigs, heavier line, stiff poles, slow trolling ect. but I just didnt have the confidence to stick with it. Well, after one day with him on Eufaula, I had the confidence to stick with it. And according to him it was a relatively slow day! He used two huge yum jigs on 1/4 ounce heads per line, 12 pound test and stiff rods. I experience for myself, it works. Now its just second nature to me. It was funny my first trip to kerr with all the boats around close together. I got some funny looks using my big ol yums and BG's. I think they thought I had got turned around and was supposed to be out on the main lake bass fishing, till I started to catch a bunch of fish. They started rummaging thru their tackle boxes looking for the biggest jigs the could find. It was kinda different for them to be able to tell exactly what a crappie fisherman is using from 70 yards away.

    Dennis,

That day you fished with us last year is without a doubt one of best trips I have had to Kaw. Hope to fish with you again this spring sometime down there. You might be interested to know this winter for me I have to fish with even bigger stuff to have success. It's amazing how much adjusting one has to do in this sport. Depending on who is running the boat and how fast they are fishing---I have had to go much heavier to any hope of catching anything-especially while fishing breaklines.

I took the Professional and his buddy out yesterday. The bite has fell off. Lots of small fish. Still catching them in 25 fow and 20' down. Feather jigs would out catch plastic 3:1. Color was not that big of deal yesterday. Got ready to fish one more pile, tore my motor up! Came in on TM. Got 5 miles from home, and blew a wheel bearing out! Will be out of the game for awhile! But i did bring some skillet stinkers back!

Big bummer TC! That boat I just hauled back from Florida had bearing buddies but I didn't have any idea what shape the seals were in for the trip back to Oklahoma. I pumped them full of grease before I left the sellers house. Then stopped to feel the hubs about 20 miles down the road, slightly warm, but that was it. I shot the grease to them about three times on the way home. I'll keep the grease gun in back of the truck until I have time to jack it up and do some serious inspection.

I am sorry TC I didn't see that rock before it was to late to stop hydro therapy from hitting the motor on it. You know how I feel about putting out anchors. I just feel like a dog on a chain, but without them we would not have caught much at all with the wind the way it was and would have donated even more jigs to the brush piles.

Everybody knows there aren't any rocks in Kaw Lake. No more than in Eufaula lake.
