Anyone have water temps in the rivers above kaw?
This is the toughest time of the year for most folks to catch crappie. When the water reaches 50 deg on Kaw they are on the shad schools feeding up for the spawn. You will hear a ton of people say the fish population is down this year because the fish are so scattered. Only way I can consistently catch a few fish is covering a lot of water spider rigging under the shad schools. If I can get lucky enough to find the shad along a drop off or channel ledge you can usually have a pretty good day. Every lake is a little different. I keep a log of every fishing trip that lists air temp, water temp, lake level, wind direction and water clarity along with water release if any and number and size of fish caught and at what depth. Been doing this for years. I can tell you Kaw is running 12 deg above normal water temp for this time of year. You may find some fish in a brushpile now but they are really inconsistent. Don't think I have found them in the same place 2 days in a row all winter. Whatever method you choose right now better involve covering some water. With the wind we are having you are very limited where you can fish and if they are not there makes for a long day.

All the Kaw campgrounds are opening early this year. Most if not all will open tomorrow because of spring break in a lot of schools next week in the area. Fished yesterday for a few hours. Spider rigged standard Caps and Coleman rigs with a minnow on bottom with a teaser tipped with a minnow on top. Kept 16 decent fish and lost that many more fighting the wind. Used 3/4 ounce weights to keep them down running about .04 mph in 9 to 14 fow. Bite was not fast but they hit hard. Running 12 ft Crappie Hunter rods with Vicious high vis 8 lb test on the main line and Vicious 8 lb fluorocarbon on the drops. Best bite was along channel ledges near shad. Talked to several boats using jigs that were having a tough day. Wind was brutal.

Wow. I would have figured you would need a heavier weight yesterday in that wind. Good job Tim.
Jeff don't like to run bigger than 3/4 an ounce weights in 10 fow or less. Truth is I needed 1ounce yesterday but didn't want to stop and re-tie the drops
Fished Kaw today 10 to 16 ft caught 12 total 3 bumping 2lbs wished I would have caught these in tournament last Saturday this is my first post.
