Truthfully I found the crappie by accident. I was throwing my shad net along the top of a ledge for catfish bait and was getting some nice crappie along with the shad in the net. I knew if I was getting them in the net there had to be a lot of them so I started looking for schools of shad with fish under them. Since shad always move I just tried to stay over them with my trolling motor. Not all shad schools had crappie with them. Caught them in areas that always produced fish in the past. Do more watching the locator than fishing.

In case some of you guys don't go down to the catfishing forum, I was out on the water yesterday and talked to some guys that ran the jug lines and all their fish on the bottom hooks were dead. Thermocline on the graph looks like it set up about 15 ft deep on the north end of the lake. All the fish we saw including baitfish were above the 15 ft mark. Water temp was running from 90 to 91 deg. They will go down to get a bait but will die quick with no air below the thermocline. Should be safe to bait hooks down to 12 ft or so unless you plan on staying with them.

Nice day to be on the water. Thermocline is getting more evident. Lake is in good shape but fishing is tough.

Water looks murky still. The river below the dam is still muddy.

It's actually clearer now than it's been in months. Overall it's in good shape. If you are looking for white bass or catfish fishing is good but crappie are hit and miss.

The water from the recent heavy rains in Kansas hit the lake last night. Ton of debris coming down. Coon Creek ramp will close today because of debris. Be careful on the north end of the lake if your planning on going out.
