Rocky Point is worth looking at well. They are charging EVERYONE who enters- $3 drive thru fee....what this means is that all the locals are cleared out. They have also been taking Surveys as you leave in order to improve Camper experience (they were surveying yesterday). Nice boat ramp and good choice on places to camp. Rocky point store makes good pizza's and sandwiches and they have the healthiest minnows on the lake.

We fished yesterday for all of 15 minutes....trolling motor battery went bad on me. Caught 5 keepers in that short time though. Fished up river on the lay downs North of fun island in the cut across from that old 3 finger ramp.

Thanks, OKHUNT - I looked at Rocky Point on Recreation.gov and it did look good. I'm wanting to stay south this trip so may stay at Taylor Ferry. I plan another trip for up north after I get back from South Dakota in Sept so will look at Rocky Point for that one. I have a day use pass so that won't be a problem. I should have spent more time on Fort Gibson because I always liked it but I used to have a cabin at Cookson on 10killer so I stayed over there when in that part of the state.

Fished the river today putting in at Rocky Point. The bite was really slow with the northeast wind and low pressure moving in. Early they didn't want it moving at all but touching wood and it was hard to stay on anything very long with white caps coming over the nose of the boat. Had 5 at noon and ended up with 14 at 3pm. 11 whites and 3 blacks. Baits were albino shad bass assissains and babys shads in blue thunder. Fished laydowns from 5' to 20' and all my fish came from 5' to 8' DOW....Ranger

Fished the upper end again yesterday and ended up with a limit of black and white crappie. Had 6 blacks and 9 whites to make my limit. The crappie were very inactive and holding close to wood. Cast and dragging over wood didn't work at all for the bigger fish and not a single keeper fish was caught deeper than 8' with most coming from the 5' to 7' DOW and really scattered. If you fished anything deeper than 8' it had smaller fish in it and alot of them most of the time. Method yesterday was sitting right on top of the wood and hitting the log or limb and holding it there not moving it at all til a strike occured. Tried Crappie Candy to promote a strike but the little cats would not leave me alone so I stopped that really quick. Water temps are cooling down and dropped 5 degrees since Friday and was 80 degrees yesterday. A few more mornings in the 60's and higher 50's those fish will start moving and bunching up alil more I believe and start feeding heavy to get ready from the colder months ahead. When that happens they will be relating to wood and rocks on the channel breaks forsure and isolated wood and rocks on clean banks which makes for perfect ambush points of bait fish......Ranger

A friend and I got to fish Gibson Sunday, we fished the upper end of the lake, the bite was pretty slow you had to slow way down and float that jig above the cover. If you were in water deeper than 10 ft you were not getting bit! We used Bobby garland baby shads and black/chart crappie pro jigs with 1/16th and 1/8th heads. We ended keeping 12 nice fish. My partner didnt catch a fish for four hours because he was trying to hard to catch one. When he slowed down he started catching them, we caught several short fish as well. But what a gorgeous day to fish! The water temps were 81 degrees and the visibilty looked great! EB

G3- saw you rig in the lot Saturday- how did you do? My rig was the first in line (red toyota). Rain was heavy- I had to put up my umbrella with the 9 foot mast. With the umbrella and my frog togs, I was actually pretty comfortable even in those heavy down pours.
I caught 25 or so. 8 solid keepers by noon and had to get back for a football game. Fish were on the channel swings and scattered. I caught nothing in 10' or less water. All fish were near the bottom in 12' or better water. I tried fishing shallower but could keep the black and sand bass off me. My brush piles were only holding dinks.....

Fished the upper end today with a buddy and had 34 keepers 25 blacks and 9 white crappie. Biggest was 1.87lbs and had several that were between 1.30 to 1.55 today. Baits of choice were baby shads in blue thunder, tuxedo shimmer, silver metal flake, and chart/pearl slab bandit. WT temp was 80.1 when I unloaded and got up to 85.7 when I left at 4pm. Deepest I caught fish was 13' and as shallow as 5'. Fish are still scattered so you have to fish alot of stuff and you don't have to beg em to bite either. Key is to keep moving. They did hit alil better this afternoon than they did early though.....Ranger
