Went yesterday and caught approximately 30. Brought home 7. Caught them on brush from 17 feet deep up to 5. Didnt get a bite shallower than that. Caught 3 little males out of all that were black and full blown spawn. The eggs in the females caught were still small and not ready.

Today was much slower. caught 5 in 2 hours with no keepers. Will go again Wednesday.

By the way, we caught them all on jigs. Cajun cricket or chartreuse pumpkin seed were the best performers yesterday.

I had the same problems with idiot boaters. I have a Skeeter zx 190 and actually had one guy give me a big enough wake to put water all the way across the back of the boat up to the seats. Welcome to summer on Tbird I guess. It's definitely not the 1st time. Have a had a few close calls out there. These kind of people are the reason I don't do Tbird at night in the summer time. Maybe I'll start keeping a 1/2 oz weight on a pitching stick so I can zing one across their bow when they do that. Fun idea anyway. I'm guessing a lot of these people drive a boat 1 or 2 times per year and don't have a clue so I try to remember that before I get too pissed but still frustrating. Maybe the rest are just drunk...

Saw a guy Sunday in a jet ski cruise up to his friend, who was in a boat tied up to a boat dock, and do a high power 180 sending a huge surge of water over the boat, soaking him. Just ridiculous kind of behavior.

New to the forums by the way. Glad to be here.

Ok guys. The fishing was hot tonight at the Bird. Wish I could have been by boat but couldn't find a ride with anyone. I hit the dam about halfway down from 7:15 pm - 8:45 pm. The wind had died down and it was a beautiful sunset behind the clouds. I only threw a double jig setup which consisted of two 1/16 oz red jig sickle hooks baited with Bobby Garland 2.25" Minnow Mind'r in black/chartreuse color dipped in Slab Slobber under a bobber. I would cast parallel to the bank about 5' - 15' out and retrieve slowly with my 8' Pro Angler Tackle rod and Crappie Maxx reel. I fished the same two jigs and baits until it got dark and my hooks had the red paint taken off and the bottom Minnow Mind'r looked sad. 1st cast landed me a sand bass on the top jig and a 10" male crappie on the bottom jig. It was on after that. Every cast had a hit or two at least. When the night was over I had landed 12 male crappies black in color and 10 sand bass. I had 5 crappies shake the hook at my feet before I could get to them and I don't know how many I lost further out retrieving. All crappie were 8-10" and I kept 6. I drove over to the Little Axe dock afterwards in hopes of snagging some more but it was too crowded for me and I drove on. Maybe I can find the females next time.

Guys if you have a boat you need to try along the bank on the west side of the water tower. When I was out there two years ago I was snagging some monsters. There was trees or brush under the water.

Out of all my Tbird fishing, I have only cruised the dam a couple of times several years ago. Some of you experienced guys and gals, what's the best way to fish the cage? I'm taking my grandson out in the next few days and was thinking about hitting some new spots. Thanks, b49

I have never fished the cage but have seen boats hovered over the top of it like they are dipping jigs over it. That might be where the females are as the males ere in 1'-5' of water on the dam.

I can tell you you will loose your anchors if you don't have an umbrella anchor and the slabs have moved off the grate all that have been caught there the last two months is dinks but this past winter we were pulling very large amounts like in the hundreds and very good size but then they were gone
