Had my best day today as a newbie fisherman! Hit T-Bird about 6:30 this morning, and caught around 20-25 crappie throughout the morning . Like Fishokla said, most were small. Only three were keepers....two that were just over 10", and one that was a bit over 11". Would have liked to have had more keepers, but at least I was on them and they were all still fun to catch! A good many of the small ones were 8-9", so not far off legal. They were biting best on straight minnows, and also on chartreuse jig heads with white bodies tipped with minnows.
Was fishing mostly around the inlet...outlet...whatever...thingy at the dam. Most were caught at a depth of 20-24 FOW. My darn anchor got wrapped around something (probably a support arm) and I had to let it go along with a good rope. I apologize to anyone who gets hung on the rope in the future. Cut it off as far below the water line as I could, but that thing will be floating there forever! Note to self; don't use a buoyant rope on anchors near structure!
Also caught some on the west side of main channel (heading toward twin bridge) in 18-22 ft FOW.
Jon,
There is no size limit for Crappie at Tbird. I keep 8 or 9 inchers. They are easy to clean and taste real good. I also think that the more small ones you take out it helps those left get bigger.

Really??? Well, don't I feel silly. I could have brought home several 8-9 inchers. I somehow had it in my head that 10" was minimum. Better re-read the fishing guide! Thanks for the info!
No minimum. I would have a hard time bringing anything under 10".
Yep, there it was in black & white (pun intended ). In my defense, I am originally from Texas, and their was a 10" limit there. Still on the brain, I guess!
