Default Pico Beachball Pitches a Shutout!

After some health issues have slowed me down this year Lil D and I were finally able to pull the boat 90 miles to Alum Creek Reservoir to chase some Slabs. Weather report looked great with temperatures back down to the low 80s and a slight breeze out of the north.

we got on the water by 8 AM and made our way to some familiar brush piles in the Big Run area with a few minnows. After trying to catch a few under bobbers we got out the trolling rods and set up 2 poles with Offshore Planer Boards and ran a Beachball pattern PICO INT Crankbait painted off the right side of the boat and a random off brand crankbait off the left.

As the title says the Beachball crank pitched a shutout this day and we picked up 5 crappie and 1 Channel Cat trolling around at 1.6-2.0mph. We caught all our fish while trolling in a southward direction and not a single bit while moving north.

Water tempera Was 80.1 degrees when we started out and when we wrapped up at 2 PM it was just under 82. We saw Blad Eagles this day and lots of Ospreys swooping down for a meal. Even spotted this redneck houseboat putting out of the Galena Ramp. We brought one four to make a nice meal for us.

It was a blessing to be able to get out again despite not having all the medical issues resolved.

Instead of heading all that way to Alum and fighting Columbus traffic, have you ever hit the Ohio River close to you? You have the Belleville, Racine and Gallipolis dams and the mouth of the Kanahwa River pretty close. The mouth of the Hocking is also within distance.
I'll drive over a 100 miles to fish the Pike Island pool up by Steubenville on occasion.

Also how was the Alum water level? In NEO many of our reservoirs are below winter pool. I don't mind, it just concentrates the crappie!

Water level was perfect IMO and just a hair above summer pool. We caught the fish in 10-15 FOW. Might have to try the OH River sometime
