When the Dogwoods bloom
Sent from my SM-J727V using Tapatalk
Maybe I was being a bit too optimistic, seeing today was probably the nicest day we’ve had yet this season. I started bank fishing expecting to fill a cooler to the same degree I did during spawn last year. Water was way down in the cove i fish, and I couldn’t buy a bite (roadrunner with a Bobby garland baby shad and a beetle spin. These usually do me right, during spawn.) i assume,in hindsight, realistically, spawn should start/the bite should heat up around mid May?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

No kidding? I’ve had a few old timers mention this to me in passing over the years. Wasn’t sure if it was an old wives tale or if it actually held water as factual.

its true the old saying is when the dogwoods bloom the crappie will be spawning, but the dogwoods are already starting to bloom and crappie are not spawning yet so i dunno

I noticed that too. I’ was throwing a 1/16 oz roadrunner with a Bobby garland baby shad. And they weren’t hitting that or a beetle spin. If they aren’t hitting either if those, they probably aren’t there. I’ll head back out in a few weeks

I was out on Caesar's on Monday and caught around 20. Look for the warm water!

Nice! Sadly,I’m limited to the bank for fishing. I can’t wait until I can get a little boat

I was down on Saturday, we caught 50 fish between two of us...26 keepers. The spawn is close, maybe another week or two.

Nice! I’m thinking the same. I’ll be out there in a few weeks to fill my freezer!
