I watched that show, but didn't see anything much different than other Crappie fishing shows that he's done. One thing I did notice, that he never mentioned, was that he was using a weedless jighead (fiber brush style weedguard). Considering that he was fishing right over top of standing timber, and likely had the jig at the depth level of some of the tops of those trees, it probably did help keep his jig from getting snagged in those tree tops.
I've seen several of his shows when he's been fishing for Crappie, and all of them I can remember had him fishing a float/jig. I can't remember seeing any of him casting a jig alone ... though I think he did mention that he wasn't getting bit doing so on this show.
