I haven't been on that river since late summer. I feel spry for you river guys, it's been a mess almost all fall.
I was hoping to do some winter sauger fishing but it's not looking good.
Good luck if you get out
I'm looking at the latest river forecast and it looks like Markland Pool is going to dip down to about 35' tomorrow, which is still 6' + over pool. I think it's as good as it's going to get with more heavy rain and cold temps coming so I'm learning toward giving it a whirl vs. going to EF. Looks like they aren't pulling as hard and I'm thinking the creeks have cleared up.
Anyone fish the river creeks when it's that high and do any good? I'll post how I do if I go. My biggest concern is how easily I'll find my holes. It will be a test of how good I've done marking waypoints

Well, I went out today. I had to talk myself into it since I thought the water levels would ruin any chance at good fishing.
I found the creek I fish in a bit high, and full of debris but otherwise not too bad a shape. Water a bit stained but not muddy. Water temps 40-41.
I ended up doing really well for a late December day. Caught about 30-40 crappie in 4 hours in the afternoon. They were deeper, in 15' water. No giants, but plenty of nice ones like the one below in the 11-12" range and several more in the 9-10" with the usual dinks. I'm really glad I went. It was a good way to finish out 2018.
Very nice
Nothing real recent. I fished a river creek about a week and a half ago. I started way upstream but didn't find them shallow. Eventually caught some but they were still in 8-10 feet of water then.
It's warmed up quite a bit since then. I'll bet they're moving shallow. Maybe a week or two from spawning.
I saw some pics of crappie being caught up in the creeks at East Fork. A few of them looked like they were showing darker colors.
I'd like to try the creeks this weekend. I'll post if I do go.
Creek temps have went up 10 to 12 degrees in a week. I'm catching them 4ft deep out off of the tips of laydowns.
Thanks for the tips MB’s and Kycreek. My boat has been out of commission since last fall. Just got it out for a test Tuesday ran good went to AJ Jolly lake. Crappie fished 1.5 hrs zeroed. Lake was very muddy like coffee with cream 61-63 degrees.
Bassky
Curious what EF looks like.
I had a guy tell me he fished the Ohio around downtown, caught 23 all close to lay downs
