    Default CC report

Water was 61 degrees when I left yesterday. Crappie fishing was good. They are Starring to get fat. Got into a lot of perch also. Wish they were Lake Erie size!! lol. Spent most the day chasing baitfish in 15-20 fow. That's where all my bigger fish came from.

I am assuming you were out during the day?

I went out weds night and tried a different spot up toward the north campground. It was my first time ever being skunked at CC CC report. I tried a couple different areas and didn't even have a bite. I was marking plenty of fish but just couldn't get them to play.

Am hoping to go out again tonight.

Yeah I fished during the day and then a couple hrs after dark..... Once darkness hit everything stopped biting. Just like you, I was marking fish, just couldn't get hardly any to bite. I'm wondering if they are gorging themselves through the day more now.

Sunday night they were popping the surface where I was fishing but had a hard time triggering a bite. I couldn't see what they were feeding on, although I did see a few minnows around my lights

Well good luck! Let me know how it goes. Do you normally fish the North end of the lake or the South? I know you said you fished the North the other night. Just wondering....

Went to the creek last night. Not a boat trailer or car in sight at the Furnas Shores ramp. I had the whole lake to myself... What's up with that?

Water temp was right at 59, which was SIGNIFICANTLY warmer than the air. With a very slight breeze, "smoke" was eerily drifting across the surface.

I revisited a new area I had recently discovered. I decided to experiment with my lights (LED strip on the side of the boat and two homemade submersible sticks). Recent comments from a fellow fisherman made me wonder if my lights were too bright for some water conditions. I first tried the side strip only, then one and then two sticks. The size of the fish I caught didn't seem to be affected. Maybe the cold front had more of an impact?

In 15-20FOW I was mostly catching crappie 8-1/2", but a few over 9. For some reason, the gills were more interested last night, but none of significant size. I got tired of the dinks and gills so I moved to more familiar and productive areas closer to the ramps.

Jigging seem most productive near the bottom. There wasn't as much surface action as other nights. I didn't end up trying deeper water that I normally fished through the summer. Maybe I should have?

No white bass or perch were caught this trip, but I did catch one small drum.

Overall minnows under a bobber produced more fish than jigs did. Overall count was around 45 fish, with a small batch of eaters to take home.

I may try again one night this weekend...

Had a good day today... Water temp was 57 and the fish were biting as long as you could find them. Caught saugeye and crappie. Started out fishing for saugeye. Caught 4. All about the same size. Biggest was 19". Switched to crappie fishing around noon. Didn't keep count of the crappie. The biggest today was just a tad under 13". Most were between 9-10". But even the 9" crappie were pigs. They are definitely feasting right now. Used jigs and minnows. Switched to jigs once the white bass started moving in. Most of the bites were pretty aggressive. All the fish I caught were tight to the bottom. Fish were in 15-20 fow depending on the sun/cloud cover. All fish were thrown back except for one saugeye which I'm eating now.
