Depends on who you talk to. Guys who like to throw a 1/16th oz jig don't like it, while guys who like to fish shallow wood, docks, pontoons, etc. and know the lake love it. I used to hate it, until my partner showed me how to fish it. Now, it's not unusual for us to catch 30-40 fat black crappie in a morning. The fish there are thick across the shoulders.

There have also been algae problems the last few years, but it's improving. The state has put in a decent management plan to control the run-off from surrounding farms that cause the algae, extensive dredging and alum treatments have made a difference, and I noticed a pretty big improvement last year.

Most fishing up here is off Lake Erie in marinas. Not a lot of crappie lakes per say. There are a few other spots but people up here don't talk to much about crappie. Most everybody chases walleye all spring and summer. Fools lol.

A friend of mine once posted some crappie pics and posted where he caught them online in another site. He got absolutely hammered by other posters for posting this spot. He jokes now that you can't even say the word crappie on that site. This spot was a smaller area of water that holds real nice crappie certain times of the year.

Up here its kind of like duck hunting. No one hates a duck hunter like another duck hunter lol.
