    Default lake erie bay question?????

we usually go to erie several times a year in the spring for weekend trips chasing wallys, and one week with the family at some point. I have in the past fished the docks in the bays for crappie and had a good time, been a while though. we are doing our usual weekend trips this year, but also spending a week in july, curious if it would be worth dragging my boat up and trying to shoot docks in july??? I know I would have more time durig this week, so is this a pattern that will be effictive 1) in the summer/warmer water 2) in the erie bays possibably in warm water conditions??? any help or advice would be great, have a great one all and God bless.

oh yea and we are going early july if that matters......

Hey jeepguyjames... sorry I can't help you with the answer on summer dock shooting but... usually make an early spring trip up there to Mud River, er, Maumee River, to do the eye thing but honestly am getting tired of that crazy river tearing up my boat. Last spring I lost 1/2" off my keel and also got a nice bare spot of paint ripped off the bottom of the boat (as hard as I hit that rock I thought for sure it was coming straight through the bottom). So I'm seriously considering trying the dock shoot thing up there in the spring this year instead of the eye thing. You fished the crappie around the docks in the spring with any luck? Pretty much the same baits as in the fall or different? Appreciate any advice you can give, was up there in the fall last year and really enjoyed the overnight trip on the docks.

I always get them Memorial Day weekend when I go up and last year the water temp I think was 85 degrees but they were hammering a jig.

I am far from an authority or even good at shooting docks but I have been going through some trail and error type things on any of the local lakes that have em.....last time we did erie bay it was kinda cause we couldnt do the main lak due to small craft warnings, we honestly used minnows under a float, we werent really prepared to crappie fish......BUT...I like to use a light head jig ( 48th or even 64th) and a small float.....now like I said I honestly havent done this alot at all, but I enjoy it when I get to, and am learning as I go....check your pm...but ya we had a ball in the spring around the docks in erie a few times....

Yates...thanks I will check that out..
