Dark water usually means dark baits. You didn't mention which of the "triple threat grubs" you have used, but if one of them was color #884 (aka the "Tapout Special"), you can stop right there.
So far, my induction into crappie casting has been limited to slinging triple threat grubs. But after my last outing where we caught over 75 fish in a few hrs (and literally threw every thing in the box) we only found one color that they wanted to eat. I can't help to think that something else would have caught a few more, I release them all- until I get my 2 pounder anyways.
Long story made short, Ive gave up minnows for specks and need more jigs( never a bad thing), and I've almost got my dad there too. To date all of my fishing is on the black water, Meade/cahoon, western branch res, northwest river and the subdivision retention ponds in church land, deep creek and western branch.
So help me make some crappie lips sore. Give me some suggestions. I've seen mention of a "wasshoppa" ect... Help me spend my money-wisely.

Yes, I almost mentioned 824. Several years ago, Billy told me that's the only grub he fishes at Ft. Pickett lakes and other dark water spots.
More importantly than color for me is the rate of fall, make sure you have plenty of 1/32, 1/24, 1/16,3/32,1/8

I use the 2" Lil Wasshoppahs only for vertical jigging if I am going to leave a pole hanging over the side. I primarily cast with 2 poles with wasshoppahs hanging over the side with a 3/8oz egg sinker and the jig about 12" below it. I by far do best with pearl/chartreuse and have some luck on cloudy days with solid chartreuse.
Why is this in off topic?

I can't answer that, Tap. CS, I've had good results with the Southern Pro Hot Grub in Acid Rain color in ALL water conditions. I use other brands as well, but, prefer the Southern Pro, it seems to be a little tougher than some and as much action as any?
Don't outsmart your common sense!

I agree with bennett it is more of the rate of fall for me vice the color. As long as you get match the water color so they can see it. I like many variations using white, chartreuse, blue as base colors. I just went the other direction and streamlined my boxes to Pearl, blue ice like color combos and cajun cricket like combo and I like that much better. Just not as much fussing around with 100 colors and I can buy in bulk. I think I am down to like 6 colors now.
GO VOLS AND TITANS!!!!!
I don't use anything but jigs (aint caught a crappie on a minnow since was a kid pond fishing) & ive got more colors & types than you can shake a stick at- its amazing though how ive fished all day before & been through 8-10 colors till ive found what they like & then its on so buy every color you find & try em all- all my jigs are 1/32, 1/64 or 1/8 oz - I always start with the 1/32 and move up as needed but 1/32 is hands down the best for me- don't forget to get a good mix of marabou in there too- seen the time they wont touch a tube but switch to marabou's & they kill em- the bigger the tail on the marabou the better-
My wife swears I only do enough surveying to support my hunting & fishing because I'm too busy hunting & fishing !
