First off, I am very sorry for your loss. I was almost In the same boat as you 5 years ago. My wife was active duty Navy and went to Sewells Point for a standard checkup. The doctor noticed an irregular heartbeat, or so she had been told she had for many years by Navy doctors. The doctor thought it could possibly be more, so he sent her to a cardiologist at Ports. Naval. What they found was she had an aneurism of her aortic valve. It was twice the size it should have been. After a few months, which seemed like years, of appointments, they decided she needed to have a mechanical heart valve replacement at 37 years of age. I will never forget when they told us this, as I collapsed right there in the operating room where they had just done her catheter through her femoral artery. Norfolk General did the surgery and other than a lot of medicines prescribed for the rest of her life, she is good as new. It is so easy to take my wife for granted and not let her know how much she means to me, for I feel she knows, but I will make it a point to tell her and show her every day. I cannot imagine what you have gone through these last few months, but am glad to see you have not turned to destructive things, as so many do. You have truly made a difference in the way I feel about my wife and show her. For that I am eternally grateful. God bless you.

Glad things worked out for you Sunbelt61.

As for me, it's now been 81 days with tears streaming down my face. The one thing I wish I could do more than anything else is hug my wife and tell her that I love her, so husbands, please, for me do just that.

I don't know if I told this part of my story yet but my wife spent around three hours in the ER at Sentara Princes Anne and her condition was so critical they had told me they would have to sedate her to better manage it and they were going to fly her to the Heart Center at Norfolk General. She had a breathing mask on and couldn't talk when I went up to her and held her hand and said, "I love you Debbie". She squeezed my hand and that was our good bye as I left the ER room as they had to get her ready for the flight.

Gentlemen, it's a cruel world we live in, every chance you get, tell your wife that you love her. Take nothing for granted.
