I would love a new vehicle that would get better mileage for me. My 2001 Dodge Dakota gets about 14 around town. About 11 pulling the boat. It has the 4.7 V8 that replaced the 318. Plenty of everything except economy. I can't get past the sticker shock on anything these days.

My wife drives an 2002 Durango that has the same motor and now gets the same MPG Dayton. She has about 250,000 miles on it and still going strong knock on wood. she has been strict on servicing it ever since she got it brand new and it pays off in the long run.CF

Had a company vehicle for a bit then I bought a brand new 1989 Chevy Blazer. I put 311,000 miles on it and sold it for $1,000. Then I bought a 1996 Ford Explorer which had somewhere around 30,000 miles on it. Took it's odometer up to 254,000 and gave it to my dad. I then bought a 2004 Mercury Mountaineer which had around $29,000 miles on it. Still driving it and it now has over 217,000. So the Blazer was the only new vehicle I have ever bought.

Funny you should mention that as it too is on my short list. With the V6 it gets 25mpg and with the hemi around 22. Both are an improvement over my Mountaineer which only gets 19mpg tops. Once again, the company I work for pays for business gas which is the vast majority of the gas I purchase.

As for a truck, it has no practical purpose for me. I considered it but I have no need for a bed and need the interior room for my tools and test equipment.

My manager and the president of the company I work for both drive Tahoe's. (company vehicles)

And yes, the government bail out is on my mind. Ford just doesn't have anything I am interested in. I don't like the new Explorer and they have done nothing to improve the Expedition in years.

The Nissan Armada is my other choice.
If the Hemi is getting that kind of mileage Tap, You need to go test drive a Durango. I bet You will like it. They make plenty of power and if they got their fuel economy down under control, then You got a deal there. I have a friend who has a 2004 Ram 1500 with a Hemi. That was the first year they started using Hemi's again. He is still driving that truck today and has run a ton of miles on it. As much as he is on the road, That motor has passed the test for longevity.CF

I think it is a short Suburban. That said, I have 2 Suburbans and love them both. 1997 with 280,000 miles and 1996 with 230,000miles. We drive them every day, but I think tt might be time for something a little less used. Chevy is good, politics aside.

If I didn't have to pay for the gas I'd go with the Tahoe.

This was last night going home from work. Noise is semi beside me with both my windows open.

Sorry it's jittery... phone cam resting on the steering wheel.

That was INST, not Average. RPM at 2200 @60, must be a small vehicle.

I said "Right now I'm averaging" meaning at that time.... not over all.

I'll get a pic of my average when I get out to the car to go home. I think it's around 34-35

'08 Chevy HHR Panel w/ a 4 banger just shy of 100K miles. Stock from the factory.

I'd love to put HPTurner on it and tweak it for mileage.

Is that your Drive-In speaker hanging out the driver's side?
