Default 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Disel

Just read where the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee will have a diesel option with 240hp and 420 lb-ft of torque, and gets 30mpg. Too bad the additional cost of around $4,500 will make it hard to justify getting it but dang, it's got my interest. They have also redesigned their steering wheel and dash and it looks nice. I hope to have my Lund paid off my the end of the year and I will be in the market to buy a new vehicle and right now the Grand Cherokee is at the top of the list. (gas version has 290hp, 260 lb-ft torque and 25mpg)

Does the increased mileage offset the added cost of diesel fuel? And did you know the tax on diesel is suppose to go up? And last but not least, are you in that tax braclet the Prez loves to hate?

Too funny.. When I started reading this, I was going to say, Bass fishermen drive diesel's!
30mpg sounds GREAT, mapquest has a thing to get gas cost per trip, and I have been compairing trip cost to different places this spring (like buggs Vs Anna). I only get 14 while towing boat on Highway. (ford 150, triton)

Diesel costs more than gas, and cost more to maintain, a lot more, they require more oil and regular fuel filter changes, biggest problem with diesels are dirty EGR valves. They will lean out the fuel air mixture and make it spit black smoke and loose power, same with the fuel filters.

I would be partial to a diesel, I love me and britts commander, jeeps make a great vehicle.

Tap, I'm looking at the gas model. Don't have a need for a heavy hauler.

Bennett is right on the money. Diesel is the cheapest fuel to refine but the most expensive to buy. 428 a gallon down in NC yesterday and 389 up in Maryland today and going up daily. And DON'T ever run one out of fuel.
