Default Best place to purchase a hand gun in Hampton Roads?

Just got a bonus at work (after the tax man took 35% of it) and I'm ready to purchase my first hand gun. Anyone have a recommendation as to where to go?

Have you decided what you want? Because most local gun shops are extremly low on stock so your are limited as to what you get to play with. Even GreenTop here north of Richmond is looking mighty lean. No much to pick from.

You have a gun show at the VB convention this weekend. Prices are up. Semi auto handguns jumped up $100 to $150 since Dec.

Mackeys Ferry gun shop in Plymouth NC is the largest gun dealer on the east coast. Good place to put your hands on a variety of hand guns. If they have one there, take a look at the JUDGE. I havey eye on one of those.

Tap go to bobs gun shop in Norfolk, they have a broad selection and will let you shoot some different models for $5 + cost of ammo and paper target... Hands down can't beat their selection.

Unless you Know exactly what you want I wouldn't go to bps.

I'm looking for a revolver myself. Just can't quite pull the trigger yet... Hard to part ways with $500

On battlefield blvd at the light before the drawbridge going south turn right on Tilden, make first left into small shopping place, gun shop is 1st of 2nd store on your right. They trade and sell new and used. They can order most fairly quickly and last time I was there had a good selection and fair prices.
I would suggest you get a 22 so you can afford to shoot it plenty!! Then when you are comfortable pick up something you want to protect yourself with, At 1 t 2 dollars a pop it can cost a small mint to go shooting now a days. I like the Smith and Weston airweight 5 shot revolver, 38 +P , all aluminum, stainless and titanium, only thing that rust is the trigger it looks like, but that may be titainium also. You can shoot cheap 38's for practice and carry 38+P and the price can very from $0.25 per solid lead to $2 each for the +P. Easy to clean, carry, not worry about getting it wet in a boat and it is VERY light comparatively to the many. Another inexpensive nice one is the S&W 40 comes with 2 clips and a nice plastic case, on "sale" at most shops for $399.99 reg $429
Another gun shop is just west of Rosemont Rd on Va beach blvd on left heading west, its a 2 story, I cannot remember the name. Superior Pawn I think, but it mostly deals in guns.

I stopped by but only around 15% of the floor was handguns and it was too crowded.

Take a look at the Glock 19's or a 26. Both are great shooting pistols. 9mm won't break the bank either.

glocks can be intimidating as they do not have a traditional safety.
