I like squirrel fried up with biscuit and gravy but they are so darn hard to clean for the amount of meat you get. I used to have bird dogs and daddy had beagles. I love fried quail and rabbits. Not enough birds any more to justify feeding dogs. Getting harder and harder to find places to hunt. Got a buddy who has some outstanding beagles but coyotes are tough on rabbits and there is a hawk on every fence post around here. Guess I'll just have to stick to fishing which I love too.
I understand your struggle. I use to say the same thing about squirrel but after a couple hundred it got easier(I also have squirrel skinning assist that hold the squirrel while you skin it...that really helps). I also crappie fish A LOT but i really enjoy the wood during the winter months. I fish all Spring, Summer and early Fall. My friends keep all the rabbit dogs so I still get to go on those hunts any Saturday I want but I much prefer the tree dogs. One camp they get to rabbit hunt after deer season in Kemper County lets trappers from up North trap all during deer season in certain areas and they really work on the coyote and bobcat. And that makes a HUGE difference. We have killed 20+ there. I think every hunter should trap in some form or fashion, but most have just gotten too busy. I trap raccoons around our feeding stations to keep the turkey egg eaters to a minimum. I am going to set a few coyote traps during when Im off a week here and there to try my hand at them this year.
