Just read where due to recent flooding, high water jumped the lock and dam near Aberdeen and deposited 400,000 cubic ft of sand. Completely filled in the navigational channel, putting a halt to all commercial traffic. The Corp will have to pump this out, along with a few other spots, before barge traffic can resume.

I grew up on that river in the Amory area and it has claimed the lives of many over the years that thought of it as a"small" river .

Wow unbelievable. My wife is from Aberdeen and we used to watch barges lock through (before 9/11 put a stop to it). I can’t imagine water going over the dam. Wonder if that event was like a hundred year flood?

My company has barges stopped on the river above the sandbar. COE is telling us it could be as late as the 18th before they can even start removing the blockage.
Talked with the COR at Columbus today all ramps closed except the East Bank but they didn’t know if you can get to the river from there. It’s going to be a while their going to work on the main channel and then start on the ramps. Barges are in route. Looks like I am going to be driving to do some fishing
Had to travel through Aberdeen today and took this pic
