Proverbs 12:10 says a righteous man cares for the needs of his animals.
Dogs are a blessing from God; they've got to be. They have been to me. I read a quote in a training book that went something like, "Perhaps the greatest tragedy in all of life is that, time-and-time-again a man must outlive his dogs."
Job 12:7-10 says we can learn of the Creator by looking at the animals (especially our dogs and their love, in my opinion) and the fish and the outdoors (the earth):
7 “But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you. 8 or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. 9 Which of all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? 10 In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.
(Also, verse 10 basically says that we ain't catching a single nare crappie unless he deems it: their life is in his hands)
I personally don't understand how a man can live life without a hound. Its so bland. I lost Angus, my black lab a few years back and still tear up looking at pictures of him. We've got another Chihuahua that, when she leaves, is gonna shut my wife and I down for AWHILE.
I've lost my father, multiple family members (buried 2 as pallbearer in the last month, matter of fact), and a few friends, and to be honest, losing my dogs-(or at least the "special" ones) hurts just as bad. I ain't afraid to say it... and I've lived it.
Every person who owns dogs has that one, maybe 2, dogs that no other dog will replace. I think it has a lot to do with the period of time in which that dog came into and exited your life and associated circumstances. Obviously the longer they live, the more dear they become.
So I guess what I'm trying to say is, it sounds like yours was one of the "special" ones we get in life, and I hate it. I, among many, know the pain and the pain is real. Prayers sent.
And Speck, I'm stealing that quote. Stealing. It.
Sorry for your loss. Our dogs are part of the family, too.

So sorry, Coach. I can't imagine not loving a dog. I know a few people who don't like them, and I don't trust those people.
