Plenty warm and copperheads are known for it this time of the year. Been out here 13 years and this is the first one I have seen up at the house, seen some on the lower side of the yard close to the pasture and pond. Took a shovel to him and he weren't none too groggy either!

Several years ago I found a live baby snake in my yard in January don't know what kind it was as it was only 10 to 12 inches long.

Glad you were lucky John. As far a the weather goes, we were duck hunting one year and breaking ice going to the blind. We turned around and a snake stuck his head up through a hole in the ice we had made with our foot. He wasn't in very good shape. He was waving his head around like a cobra and snake charmer. I guess we stepped on him and woke him up. #6 magnum dispatched him pretty quick.

A friend called yesterday, he moved his lawn tractor out to change blades and belts. It was late tuesday when he moved it so he started on it wednesday. Laying on the ground removing the belt and pins before pulling the deck out. Had 2 copperheads under the deck. He let me know since I'll be changing the transmission in mine.
