Speed depends on the fish, I change every 20 minutes if that bait has not had a hit, after a while if they aren't hitting good I get lazy.
When starting out pulling cranks, how long do you go with a color before changing, if you haven't caught anything?
I have guy telling me they are pulling at 2-2.2 mph. Anyone going that fast?

I'll change SOME of my colors every 20-30 minutes if the bite is slow or none. My speed is set at 1.8mph 90% of the time. I will make some turns to check their interest. If I get hit on my outside rods in a turn, I know the fish want the bait faster. If I get bit on my inside rods in a turn, I know I need to slow down.
If I'm seeing bait and fish on my 2D, I'll stay as long as it takes to make 100% sure the fish I see either aren't crappie or they won't bite. If I'm not seeing fish on 2D, I'm outta here!

Last year I used the big motor to pull cranks all summer long, my average speed was 2 mph and I caught a good many fish at that speed. My catch rate has improved this year with the ability to get my speed down to 1.3 to 1.8 mph. So yes you can catch them at 2 - 2.2 mph on most days, you just may not be catching as many as the guy going a little slower. As far as colors on a lake I haven't fished in awhile or ever. I will try a variety of different colors 4 poles / 4 colors if fishing alone or 8 poles / 8 colors with two fishing. Also, I'm trying different style cranks (bandits, arkies C55's etc.) if one or more colors or style cranks start catching fish I start swapping my other poles to match those "hot" colors or baits. I don't really have a set time, never really pay attention to a clock when I fish, but if I had to guess I will change out non producing colors about every half hour or so.

Seen Jeff White put a hurting on big fish one time. He was moving over 2 MPH. And still catching big fish on the outside when he would turn. so they were hitting that 2.5+ MPH bait then.

Thanks guys, I guess I am trying too hard to make them bite what I think they will bite. I will start changing more often. I usually pull at 1.5 to 1.8. Maybe I need to vary that more as well.
Think a lot of the time we fish under them, gonna run some hi I'm the water column tomorrow, haven't done that in a few weeks

I change every 20-30 min.Speed is very important.I usually push cranks to control depth better.I have seen these fish kill a crank at a higher speed followed by a slight slow down.I use that up and down often when the fish don't seem aggressive. More of a reaction bite.I also seem to have the most luck trolling with the wind not against it.Just my
