Default Cossar State Park , Enid, Deer Hunt

Noticed on the MDWFP web site they are taking applications for a deer "hunt"....This is not correct..These deer are tame, not wild......I understand the need to manage the herd, but to call this a "hunt" is pathetic...I cannot think any person who loves hunting would want to participate.. Contact MDWFP and let them know your feelings..It would be much better to have State personnel go in and do what needs to be done..Quietly.....

I understand what you are saying, I've been there before and the deer are obviously used to human contact. However I really don't see any difference between the thinning of the herd being done by state personnel or hunters. If they are overpopulated to their on detriment. Maybe it could be made open only to the handicapped, elderly hunters, or the needy.

I'd rather see someone use the meat than the state dispose of it.

They have a handicap hunt at Arkabutla every year. Also they have done draw hunts. I participated in it one year and let me tell you that those deer knew that people weren't supposed to be in the woods. They are used to people in the camp ground area.

Not much different then someone shooting them in a high fence but people do it all the time. I do agree on handicap hunt that would be ok

I've know about this for several weeks, been just leaving it alone not to put much light on it. I would not waste my time hunting them, a big one is skinny. I understand where they are coming from tho, they need to be thinned down as far as herd.
If you don't want to participate, don't. This may give someone a chance to get a deer that doesn't have land to hunt, who knows, hope they can control it enough to keep everyone safe.

There is nothing about hunting to this..This is a slaughter of animals you can pet...This is the kind of stuff anti-hunters love to get ahold of.. To offer permits for a "hunt". Is very offensive to me as a hunter....Thousands of people a year enjoy seeing them. This could have been handled differently.

It really shouldn't have gone this long. They should have thinned the herd long ago. It is cool seeing them but it really is bad for them. Just look at how small they are. And I know you feed them and so do a lot that camp there but they really should put a end to that.
