How sure are you of this Jimmy? Why doesn't the record state it was caught from the spillway? It notes where the fish was caught in the reservoir. Enid has 3 records total, one for the white crappie, and two for gar those two gar (one spotted and one short-nose) were recorded as being spillway catches. I'm not disputing your real life testament, it just seems odd to me that they would not differentiate that in the record book. Also, I will attach two links below, Mr. Bright does not do that 5lb 3oz fish justice in the picture where is squatted by the car. The 2nd link is a real big fish caught on Kincaid in Illinois, what a stud of fish at 4lb 8.8 oz. Not saying Mr. Brights fish wasn't the weight recorded, but it must have had some REALLY thick shoulders! I've seen the replica at the field house in Enid and it is impressive, but it is a replica.

The pic of him squatting by the car, has to be a different fish. It doesn't look 3 pounds, much less 5-3... can't be the fish they say is 5-3. No way

Something else to think of on the record. Back then not near as many people dragging limits of crappie out like today. One boat on Pickwick last Dec. Brought out 1500 crappie. Just one boat in Dec, with 2 people fishing in it. Those 2 guys were fishing every day but one. Did did not get to fish Christmas day. Truck took out on them before they got the boat in the water. Back then I don't think most people caught that many in a year. I know most trips if I get a dozen good ones. That's all I want or care to clean.
I do know in the Tn river, I had a record white crappie, Smallmouth bass and Sauger in one week. But it was in hoop net back when I was commercial fishing. And looked at them. And being careful turned them back. All three came out of the same net in 5 days. I have beat that spot to death over the last 30 years. Not a fish like that on a rod and reel. But did get a 7lb Small Mouth and a 4 lb Sauger from there.
Also in Nov and Dec, I put enough fillets in the freezer to last me all year. First time ever, but man it was fun. And I did catch some big Record brush piles..

I was on a turkey hunt in water valley a few years back and stopped and had my picture taken with the record fish. There is a statue of the fisherman and the fish but the guys i was with were diehard turkey hunters and couldnt understand me wanting to see the statue.

kinkaid fishermen either have very small heads or very big hands.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
The two loudest sounds are a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and one that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.
