I have one, I would say it works the way my first Terrova was supposed to.
I would definitely buy an Ultrex again if it disappeared.

Does the foot control work as smooth and instantaneous as a regular cable steer does?

Yes.. it is the real deal. Steers just like a cable steer but even better because it don't move ANY when you let off for when your pushing, steers quiet if your poke'n grass or single pole'n, remote steer if you're pulling long lines or cranks... it's the all in one motor!

My son and I fished all day today in 15-20 mph wind and 3X he said " we would have gone home a long time ago without the Ultrex." The anchor mode loves strong straight winds. The cable power steering is even better than I imagined. Anchor mode is confused by no wind and wanders 5-10' in gusting winds but always smoothly and quietly brings you back to your spot. It would be a tough transition to go back to my old FORTREX, which was a great TM until the day I installed the Ultrex (easy install btw). It took a few years but I think Minnekota finally got it right.

Just got one. Love it so far. As advertised. Make sure you calibrate the heading sensor and keel offset as installation instructions say.
