Default Why does Enid stink ?

What is causing the spillway water at Enid to smell like sewer water ?

Real question is all.the shorts, any idea how long it takes a 11 3/4 inch fish grow to 12? Just curious as I'm catching a lot of 11 3/4 on Grenada, Sardis and Enid

The smell comes from decaying, rotted vegetation that was flooded. And now that they are pulling the lakes down to summer pool that stuf is circulated by the current caused by the drawdown and coming off the bottom it goes out the spill way. The agitation of the water releases those gasses.

That makes sense. I just have never smelled it before.

Arkabutla is the worst, if you go down this fall when they start the winter drawdown it sometimes is so bad you can't stay down by the spillway.

Seems Enid has had this short fish thing going on for the past 3-4 years. For some reason it appears they get harvested as fast as they get to 12.25", but I don't think that really happens. A few survive but next year same ole thing. Maybe the spillway gets em in the fall.

I don't care if people catch 3000 11 3/4" fish a day. And only keep 1 keeper. Don't NEVER change it back to 11" keepers. Those fish will be over 12 this fall.

Maybe!! I only keep a few, now and then. Since all the talk about the wardens checking all the crappie for length, we have gone to 12.25"- Avg. is 1 keeper per 6/7 Crappie. They are fun to catch, but I like to eat a few sometimes.
