    Default old motor

I bought an 2002 carb. four stroke 100 HP Yammie and it runs great. Friend found a carb four stroke 70 that really runs rough. Been sitting over a year without starting it. A lot of variables, but under most conditions, would a carb cleaning kit get him running decent? I'm guessing the old gas has gummed everything up and maybe even the cylinders are nasty. Any body got thoughts, except to STAY AWAY from it. lol

Get some SeaFoam. Dose up 3 gal gas with half a can. Pump it up good let sit for about 30 min. Crank on muffs or drum and let idle about 20 min. Shut it off and let sit a couple hrs. Crank up and do the same thing. Let sit over night then put in the water and run the stew out of it. You should start to see it clearing up. If it only sat a year that SeaFoam should clean it up. If it gets to running good enough your comfortable with it just dose up some more gas real good and run it. Do that a couple of tanks then cut it back to the recommended dosage for a couple of tanks. From then on just use it about every third tank.

Yeah....that's what he's doin. Seems to be workin some. Fella told me that another product works better than SeaFoam....SeaFoam is an older recipe and the new is more designed for ethanol gas???? Thoughts??

Its gonna be hard to beat Seafoam. Also Deep Creep is concentrated seafoam in a spray can......You can spray in the throats of your carbs good....let sit overnight....then next day spray them again and mix seafoam in your gas and run the snot out of it. You can find it at Walmart or also most any auto parts store.

Jimmy, that new SeaFoam has been re formulated for the ethanol gas. It still works as a cleaner and also now has a stabilizer in it. I can't imagine anything being much beter though anything is possible. Like G was saying that DeepCreap is a fantastic product where you can use it. It's just going to take a little time. There are times when you have to pull carbs but usually the SeaFoam will get it and a lot cheaper.

Boy, thanks guys. Buddy will be glad to hear that. I'm gonna get some Deep Creep just to have around the house for mowers, weed eaters, power washers....anything with a gas engine. Sounds like if you douch those things down every so often just for good measure, it'd be ok. Again, thanks guys.

Just talked with my buddy....mechanic says that it's only running on three cylinders. Could that be a function of one really bad carb, and could SeaFoam, etc. and good clean gas help that issue, or does that sound more serious? Trying to help him best I can, and you guys are great. Thanks again

I had a 75 Yamaha pre-mix outboard that would start up every spring(After it had set since fall) on 2 cylinders then the 3rd would kick in at higher RPMs. I started running Stabil ethanol treatment in all my fill-ups and the cylinder cutting out went away. Seafoam and Stabil ethanol are always in my tank.

Compression test first then move on, rule out something major with a cylinder before worrying with anything else, too looking at the plugs give you some idea about whats going on.
