I have to watch where I pick up stuff here, we have a law against it.
I'm picking up cardboard for the garden and need a parking permit from each store I pick up from.

I stake tomato and pepper plants before setting the plants. I dig a trench for the plant and a 2 liter bottle. Maybe an inch of dirt between the stake and plant. 2 or 3 inches of dirt between the plant and bottle. I cut the top off the bottle so it has a 2 to 3" hole for watering. A sharpened 1/4" rod to poke holes in the bottom.
After the plants need to be tied the first time, okra is up about 6" I'll till the middles and lay down cardboard or 4 to 6 sheets of newspaper to cover the ground as much as possible. Some of the cardboard has to be cut to fit between rows. Cover the cardboard with sawdust, shavings, wood/leaf mulch, most anything. All can be tilled in the fall or wait till spring. It holds the moisture in and a great weed block. I haven't tried it with peas and beans, they need hilled up more as they grow.
I'll be moving the garden after this year. I'm laying about 4" of sawdust and covering with cardboard. Leaf and grass clippings will replace the brick holding the cardboard in place. The dirt from the old garden will be added on top of that.

    Bill, what's the best day?
At an auction I can get the cardboard that makes a container on a pallet, some are 5 ft tall 16 ft long.
