Find a retirement community. (I am not talking about assisted-living.) Most have 24-hour manned security gates. Retirees see and hear everything, and the types that would perpetrate a theft like yours stick out like a sore thumb and are noticed immediately. Besides, they ain't getting in the gate! I've lived in one since '85, only three crimes that I can remember. Still, we have a gang problem...the Men's Golf Association and the AARP. They war over Thursday morning tee times. Nice 400 acre lake though! I moved here because of a theft at our previous home. That solved that.

Still a couple of years from retirement (turn 50 in January). I have to admit, as I near "geezerhood" that sounds like a better and better idea. Have to learn to swing a stick though......

I am truly sorry for you, don't move to Memphis, TN- They will steal your wife and kids, home, car, boat and all equipment, plus have a run with your credit cards. Don't have any on you, they just shoot you and go to the next person or home.

    Sad, Sad, Sad

I look forward to a few Charles Bronson types having their way with the criminal element. Theives do it because they know nobody will stand up to them, LEO has more pressing issues, and if caught the courts will do nothing.

I had $4000 worth of waterfowl gear stolen from my storage trailer at my business a couple of years ago. What is so maddening about it is the fact they apparently found a spare key I had well hidden outside in case of emergency, came into my studio, took my storage unit key from my desk, helped themselves, then locked the trailer back up. I will go to my grave convinced it was somebody who knows me and my business well and knew what was in my storage trailer. So far in the 2 years since they haven't slipped up and said something to the wrong person.

Sorry for your lost, I know how it feels. What ever you do never stop in Memphis. Thugs stole my boat & trailer off my truck in broad daylight at ''I Hop'' while my friend & I had breakfast... Now I'm trying to piece together a very old 14' v bottom with 9.9 motor, and bad old fish finder to fish with. Yea I hate a thief too. On the other hand it's a good thing I didn't walk up on them doing this, I'd would have been shot more than likely. Again I'm sorry for your lose.

I parked my truck next to a pond on private property one time.Set out too nice rods for catfish and Ambassador 5000's on them, grabbed a .22 and walked in the woods, came back shortly, somebody cut the lines and took off with the poles. What hurt the most was one of the reels was the first good reel I ever bought with money earned on an after school job and I had had it 20 years.Got a lecture from Dad for spending so much money on a reel ( I think it was 30 bucks)

    Sorry for your losses

Time to round up all them bad boys....way too many out there and way to bold. I keep three boats outside but don't leave a lot of gear in them. Keep a barking dog kenneled in with em to at least alert me if somebody comes around.

Well, how bout an update. The fine men of the Winona Police Department have found my fishing poles. I am picking them up in the morning!!! A concerned citizen interrupted the thieves as they were snooping around a few blocks away from my home. They dropped my poles and ran. They have been at the Police Department since the night they were stolen. Guess I should have called the cops when I discovered them missing. Thanks to the "concerned citizen" and Winona's Finest!!!
