Never claimed to be a farmer. My son in law only farms 10,000 acres, and not a single acre of cotton. I do understand it's the highest costing crop there is.
We only sell the Best. Ranger, Xpress, Yamaha, Suzuki, Tohatsu.
I was always told (and experienced it when I still farmed) that cotton was a five year crop.... 1 really good year, 3 average years, and 1 really really bad year. If it happens in the right order, all is great.
But, let it go like this over a ten year period: 1 good year, 3 average years, then 1 bad year, followed by another bad year or even a couple of average years before the next good year, and you will find yourself wishing you had never planted all that cotton.......... That's just too big a gamble for me.
I had an Uncle loose everything farming cotton. I got out even. Dad made some money.
