I am needing to extend my trolling motor wire from front of boat to the back of the boat (16 foot boat) so nearly 16 foot of wire. What kind and size wire do I need for a minn kota 50 lb traxxis ?

Since it's DC you gotta count the feet there and back............ @ 50 amps you need #4

6 gauge wire will do the job great and last long time !!!!

6 guage is all you need

If you run #6 it will work, but Don't be surprised when you want to run full speed you go hmmmm I don't seem to be going as fast as I used to.......... #6 is the minimum at your tm rating and feet of wire, It is alway's good practice to step up to the next gauge wire.......

I would go with #4 because if I have to do a job like that, I only want to do it once. #4 wire is a pain in the butt to work with. It is like trying to pull a 2x4 thru the maze of crap that is typically in the underside of our boat floors. That said, you will get much less power loss thru the large wire. The last 3 boats I have rigged got #4 wire from the TM batteries to the TM because I eventually went to what could be considered over-kill on my trolling motor sizes. I would rather have it and never need it than wish I had it and didn't.

I agree with overkill on conductor size. #4 awg tinned copper. Be sure to use tinned copper conductor. You won't have near the problems with corrosion.
