    Default Weird Find in Fillet

I was cleaning some fish from the main lake at Butla this evening when I noticed something odd in a fillet. The crappie was a healthy looking 14 inch male. I noticed a dark spot approximately an inch long in the middle of one of the fillets. I cut into the fillet and removed a dark brown hard piece of something about an inch long and the diameter of an earthworm. The object resembled that of a dried up earthworm that you might find in your driveway after a rain followed by sun. I kept that fish's fillets and the object bagged seperate from the rest of the catch. I have cleaned a lot of crappie from Arkabutla and Sardis but never seen such a thing. Anybody have any ideas besides that Butla fish have worms .....

it's still only protein. Parasites come and go during the year. Most often you'll see'em during hot weather.

Think you going to find a bunch of Butla fish with worms. No biologist but figure it has something to do with low,hot water last year. Butla is only lake I have ever caught crappie with worms. Jimfish may know about this maybe he can ahead some light on it.

I've caught some here and there over the years like that, I suppose it's some kind of parasite. The oddest thing I ever found was a copper plated # 4 shot. I was turkey hunting years ago with a guy. After the hunt this bird brained gewber shot into a pond at some fish he saw. (Hey, I said he was a gewber). The next year I was bream fishing there and caught one that had the shot in it. Lol

Ive noticed some little red worms-like things in the fish I caught on the lower lake. I just removed it from the meat and bagged it. Figure 375 degree grease will make it OK to eat. May be whats wrong with me, eating bad fish....
