The way I read this Mr. Garavelli requested The Commission take away two of our poles based solely on 25 letters and 70 concerned anglers. Not once does it mention biological data. This is a trajedy.
If we don't act on this we will ALL be fishing with one pole in a year or two!

15 fish is 15 fish regardless.. What I haven't figured out is, if Sardis is full of 13" fish and nothing between that and 9", why did they change the regulations this year.. Wouldn't it make more sense to wait til next year when the lake is full of 11.5" fish

I read an artical the other day I think was in the Clarion Ledger and they were talking about the changes on Sardis.I tried to find it to get the quot right and I agree with it,the bioligest said he wished the other lakes in the big 4 would go with the 11in. 15 fish limit but fishing pressure was a problem and they had to figure out how to deal with it or it would be the down fall of big crappie. That's not exactly how he put it but that was the jest of it.
im good with the 15 limit completely. but i dont see how dropping the length to 11 is a benefit. ie.......you dont get bigger bucks by lowering antler restrictions.

...........my thoughts on this. you have good years and you have bad years. we just suck it up.
i talked to the warden last week about the 3 pole thing. his statement was that the three poles will make it take longer to achieve a daily limit thereby helping to eliminate folks from double tripping in a day.

Hung out with one of the biologists this weekend. and he said this was not to grow bigger crappie, but to help sustain numbers. He said 80% of the fish either die of natural causes/predation, go out the hole, or are caught. He said up to 50% of the breeding size fish are being caught every year. I agree on the pole limits, but its crazy how many people travel to fish these lakes. I know its great for the surrounding communities, so don't cut it out. Make it a tag draw, Like many out of state trophy hunts are. But then that shuts down the guide services by limiting numbers of people that can fish unknown waters every year. We talked for two hours on the subject, and every proposal had its positives and negatives. But all of the negatives seem to outweigh the positives
It seems simple to me. Some of y'all won't like it, but put a season on them. Close the season 3 months a year to give the fish a breather. It works for other species on other lakes.

You can talk to 5 different MDWFP bioligists and get 5 different ideas or opinions.....I actually talked to one who dissagrees with the new rules and thinks they should just leave it like it was. Maybe they are all not privy to the same data....dunno
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.
