I switched from 10lb mono to 30lb braid for that reason.

Last I heard speed doesn't affect depth. Seen this on threads all last summer. 1.5 to 2 for me.

One thing I did learn is to verify your reel counter is exactly tuned to the footage. Just because your reel counter says a 100 ft it doesn't mean it's correct. The amount of line you have on the reel controls this. Learned late last year but gonna verify when I start pulling this year.

Ifn its FULL it should be mighty close to rite. Very rare I let out 100 foot of line and have folks tell me all the time they are fishing 150 foot back but their spools aren't but but half full, makes a lot of difference.

That's what the newbies to pulling cranks need to know. I was a newbie to pulling cranks last summer and it didn't make sense,to me, at the time to put 1000 feet of line on when 300 feet was more than I needed. Learned from this forum to fill the spool so the footage is right and matches the counter. Cranking is fun, especially with the Grandkids.

Yep, I use a cheap filler and then put about 200 feet of what I am using to fish with.

I use 15 mono and when I got 60 to150 out the 300's run about the same at 2 mph. When I run shallow on purpose to check what they run they all start digging when they reach 12'. My rod tips are 1' 3' 6' above surface so that's what I get with 15.
