Same here with a cut-off 55 gallon drum down to 35 gallons during cool months. Just lookin for an edge in keepin leftovers in summer months, thinkin an earthen pond would help lower the water temp a degree or 5...

    A #6 is a medium minnow, and a large crappie minnow is a #8. A 12 is a catfish minnow. Lol. I use a #20 to walleye fish.

Since we started this thread with rosey minnows, that's where I'll start. They aren't new, they been around for a while. I'm 60, my dad used them whenever he could find them. I remember that from when I was about 4 or 5 years old.

A barrel or a tub from the co-op buried over halfway in a nice shady spot should work in keeping the water cool. With that much water, you want to let it set for 4 or 5 days before adding minnows. When doing water change outs, let 5 gallon buckets sit for a couple of days before changing the water. Never over half of the old water. Add 1 teaspoon of plain salt to 5 gallons of water. Try not to add hotter water than what is in the tank, add ice to it if you have too. No more than once a month. Try not to stir up the muck from the bottom of the tank.

Pumps and filters, check goodwill. The hernando store has had them in the past at some great prices. But heck, check them all. I picked up a sump pump, a bit strong for this job. It was prices 29.99, I guess the girl had a hard time reading. She charged me 2.99. I got one of those hang on pump/filter things for fish tanks for 9.99 for my granddaughter. My son said they cost 49.99 at petco.

Bill, I have hauled a gazillion tons of baitfish around the country, but I have never heard a bait farmer refer to 8s as large crappie minnows. Just sayin'.
