I plant a small patch that I expand a little each year and plan to do so as long as I can. My plans are to turn the whole yard into a garden for both vegies, fruit, and flowers. That way I can get rid of the lawn mower. Right now I have zydecos (snap beans) and okra coming up in the garden plot. I picked about 40 pounds of beans Sunday with more to pick now. The okra is about 1' tall and coming on strong now that the weather has warmed. Scattered around the rest of the yard are blackberries, 3 fig trees, 3 muscadine vines, 1 table grape vine that's loaded with little grapes, a mulberry tree, tomatoes, loquat tree (japan plum), and a few assorted flowers. I usually put in strawberries but passed on them this year. It seems like a lot and might seem crazy but it keep me from going insane. Gardening is like fishing, it gets you close to nature and is very healthy for you both with the eating and the exercise. I remember my grandfather plowing with a mule when I was young. He was 79 when I was born so he must have been well into his eighty's when I had my first recollection of him. Gardening never hurt him, he lived to be 104 and 3/4. Nothing strange in my garden yet, but I have looked hard at some of the subtropical fruit that is available. Perhaps when I have more time. Retirement, not too far away.

Several varieties of tomatoes, some heritage varieties. Two varieties of green beans. Red and yellow potatoes. Okra, carrots, couple types of peppers, onions red and white, corn, squash, zucchini, watermelons.

I plant a small sweet corn patch up the driveway in a smaller field.

Plus we have an orchard, peaches, and tons of blackberries.

Small flower garden, is going to be about 12 tomatoe plants, radishes, jalapenos, kohlrabis. Moved to town 13 years ago, and still like to play in the dirt. Doug

I put in sweet corn aseveral types of peppers, watermelon, cantaloup, Honey Dew, Zucchini and butternut squash and a good bed of asparagus that is on its second year now. I don't do it to save money- just feed the soul and see something grow.

We grow a garden all year long. Our spring/summer garden is looking really good this year, we have tomatoes, garlic, potatos, yellow squash, corn, peppers and I'm waiting for my bush beans to come up. I love being able to go out back and pick fresh vegies for dinner.
