Today is a great day
POSITIVELY a rattle-headed copper-moccasin! No, really, I'm pretty sure
thats what we call a rat-snake around here, nothing to worry about if that
is it. Unless you do what my Dad did, dip a pan of horse feed up out of a
barrel, and one of them is coiled up in it - in a DARK barn with a dim flashlight!
The snake was well behaved, but I think it got away with pops.

The barn would not be big enough for me and the snake he could have it. I have got to not killing every snake I see if they will leave me along and stay outside. lol
Today is a great day
DO you remember if the tail was pointed or stubbed? Usually a pointed tail means non poisonous and a blunt stubby tail is usually poisonous unless therefore it got chopped off lol. Not always true, but alot of times.
I was going to say chicken snake.
A couple years ago I come home from work and it was during the early wood duck season so I thought I'd run over to the lake and hunt the last hour before shooting time. I went out to my shed to grab a piece of camo burlap to cover stuff in the boat up with. It was folded up on the top shelf. I'm pretty short so I had to reach pretty high. I grabbed it and pulled it off and yanked a chicken snake about that size down right in my face. He was just suspended there eye to eye. And much like J White's, Pop it scared the crap out of me. I fell backwards over my lawnmower. And grabbed a hoe. Before I could get him he got up in the rafters and got away. I'm terribly afraid of snakes anyhow. Next day my roomate caught him in a pillow case while I was at work. I so much wanted to kill him but he was going to his farm and I told him to just turn him loose.
Ya ain't holdin' your mouth right.
Do a search for Rat Snake and I think you will find some pictures that look like this. A friend of mine caught a snake just like yours the other day and the pictures I found here on the web looked just like it. It's harmless......treepotatoOriginally Posted by ribit
Those snakes are better than cats at cleaning barns and sheds of rats.
Life is what you make of it...
I walked out back on the patio one morning and there was a very large black snake laying on the top railing sunning itself. I caught it and took it back to the woods and let it go. I could just imagine if it had been my wife walking out there and seeing that.
