That is a mean loking snake alright! wouldn't want to meet up with him on the creek bank .The way that I look at it there are only five kinds of snakes to stay away from, : big snakes , little snakes , live snakes , dead snakes , and
    sticks that look like snakes.

Shows how much I know about snakes. I thought snakes had fangs and not teeth. That big python looked like he had a full set of teeth.

Most poisonous snakes have fangs, non-poisonous have teeth, It looked like a black rat snake to me, diffentlly no cobra or rattler, I used to have and both, 8 or 10 rattler's ranging from 3' to 7' long, from about the size of a half a dollar to the size of my calf. 5" dai. the first time i tryed to catch him, i had his head in one hand, his body in the other, he was so strong he snatched his head right out of my hand had to sling him back to the ground quick got a good holt of him the secound time, kept him for about 3 years, then ate him and a couple more that i had fattin up by then there some good eatting.

    OK, here's the scoop !
There are only four poisonous snakes indiginous to the US.
    #1 Rattler
    #2 Cottonmouth Moccasin
    #3 Copperhead
    #4 Coral
With the exception of the Coral snake, all the others have "slit" (cateye) pupils. The Coral has round pupils ( All the non-poisonous snakes have round pupils).
Also, with the exception of the Coral, the other poisonous snakes have their eyes inset below a ridge above the eye (the "pit" in pit-viper). Looking directly down on them one cannot see the eyeball because of this ridge above the eye. All non poisonous snakes do not have the ridge and thus their eyes can be seen readily.
When in doubt, just turn em over and rub their belly and see if they snore, Poisonous snakes do not snore (joke).
