Gas broke 3$ / gallon in west central Ohio......went from 2.69 this morning to 3.09.....somebody is making record profits........................
Well, they have started it here. A couple of stations I know of are down
to nothing but premium, and folks are coming out of the woodwork with
jugs, pans, pitchers whatever buying all they can haul. I can't really explain
why, but this always irks me - I guess growing up, I was raised to be polite,
and stay calm in crisis, to not panic. If there is no more gas, I'm gonna
start raising mules and plant a bigger garden, and go on with things. Not that
I think this is more than a temporary thing, another reason it bothers me to
see folks get all frantic at the pump.

Gas went from $2.47 yesterday this evening it is $3.39. People are lining up at the pumps. There claiming it will be 3 or 4 week before gas starts coming in again. Several stores are out of it.
I think it's just gouging.
I just heard on CBS that somewhere in Atlanta that gas was 6 dollars a gallon.
Me too, Beagler, I hope they gouge theirself right out of business!
I am no rocket scientist, but it would look to me, if I was running the oil
companies, like I needed to insure a steady supply of reasonably priced
fuel, to keep folks happy and driving their gas guzzlers, and not looking at
alternative fuels and analyzing how much they use. Make profit by volume,
and keep folks from looking over the fence. I guarantee, if things stay the
way they are, hydrogen, biodiesel, electric, whatever will start moving at
a faster pace if people start clamoring for it, and high gas prices make them
more competitive economically. I think they are cutting their own throats,
and I couldn't be happier to see it happen. Think about it, if everyone
buys very fuel-efficient vehicles, and starts thinking twice before turning the
key, even at $3.00 a gallon, could they have made more money with everyone
driving pigs and not paying any attention to how much they used, at say
$1.50? There I go thinking again.

You and I both know there's no such thing as making a honest profit among the business world . There philisophy is make as much as you can as fast as you can. anyway you can.
Yes someday they will cut there throat. And maybe that day is closer then
we think.

Jeff,
Right again my friend, prices are a reflection of what the general public will pay for the supply of something. At some point the price exceeds the value of the supply and consumers shop for alternatives. That is the beauty of a free market.

Been thinkin on this, and realized it is not the fact that folks are buying
extra gas that gripes me, its the crazed attitude they (some) get about it.
you know the kind of grown men that would step on a kid to get out of
a burning building - they always show up when theres a gas shortage.
at least I run into them. I saw a picture in the paper though, of a
a guy sitting astraddle of a 1500 gallon tank, pumping gas into it, with cars
lined up waiting behind him - how would I feel if I was already waiting hours
in line, then got behind him, I thought. Not very friendly, probably.

I heard on the radio this evening. Where a fellow riding a motorcyle in Atlanta had a couple fellows jump on him and knocked his block off. It seems he was cutting in front of cars they thought he was trying to get ahead of then at the pumps. It turned out he was trying to get to the store to buy a pack of cigs.
I just read on another weg site that a station here had folks fighting over the pumps.
they'll be a shortage of gas alright. But because our own people are hording it.
