Well I can't help it if I watched a bad report.

I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.
From what I have seen, you dont need a cruise missile to take out these boats. Looks like they use small fishing boats to come up along side the ship and climb on board. It's not like they have an organized fleet or something. It's the same as terrorists, they dont wear uniforms and they dont fly flags. I dont see why every damn one of these ships isn't armed to the teeth with security guys (blackwater lost their Iraq contracts, this should be a good gig for them) and just blow holes in everything that comes within shooting distance. Or just drop heavy things on them when they pull alongside :D The key it seems is keeping them from getting on board. Once they do, they know what to do and are pretty good at it. But until then they are in a bad position from my view point.
Commercial fishermen help feed the world.
But a cruise missile makes a bigger splash.
I have to agree, it has to be cheaper to have hired guns on board than pay the millions in ransom.

One of the thing I heard is that the ship's insurance carriers are one of the reasons the ships aren't now traveling with arms. Things like prohibitive premiums or no insurance coverage at all.
Another thing suggested was that ports didn't what ships entering with arms on board the vessels.
Not a knowledgable source here just things heard.
One would certainly think that with any more incidents occurring that there will be some changes going on where by the pirates can and will be quickly dispatched to be with Ala where a sane and rational world requires them to be.

These incidents with the pirates have been going on for years since the withdrawl from Somalia... just some incidents get more attention then others like a while back when they seized a ship carrying military equipment... maybe a cruise missle is an overkill idea with these guys, but it'd make one heck of an example. Best case imo, would be to let some blackhawks or cobras patrol some of these International waters where the incidents are high, and let them play target practice.
Fishin' fills the time until College football season
Just saw on MSNBC that Pirates have fired on US sailors... so anyone want to explain why these pirates are still afloat?

If they weren't afloat, then that American Captain would be dead then the Military would have holy hell raised upon them...
If it was the boat he is in that fired on them then they just blew any chance of a ransom. If it was another boat then they should be swimming back to their huts.
I thought we didn't negotiate with terrorists?
