    Default More puter ??

I just received my upgrade parts. My plan of attack is to first replace the memory and make sure its working. Next I'll install the new drive and boot it off the OS CD. Format NTFS, then start reloading programs. I know I need to back up (to CD) my address book and favorites. What else to I need to back up? Drivers? After getting everything back with all the updates I'll install the Ethernet card. Does that sound like a logical approach? Am I forgetting something?

I always burn pics and other files onto a cd/dvd prior to taking on such a task just for safe keeping. I also create a download file from all the drivers and such that I have saved over time and burn them onto a disc as well. Never hurts to have a couple of hard copy backups of things.

Good luck with it and if we see you back online within the evening, we'll know it was a success.

Yes burn your drivers to CD. Unless you have the install disks that came with your hardware and even then you probably have updated them since then. Don't forget to install the chipset drivers as well and any BIOS updates you need. If you don't have your driver install CD's or don't know what is in there, download Aida32 from here |MG| AIDA32 - Personal System Information 3.93 and run it to see exactly what hardware you have, then go to the manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers.

Superdave, whether you know it or not, you are quickly becoming my pc guru. Should C.C ever start a PC corner, I vote you as Mod.

It's a driver that you can DL that updates your PCs chipset to the latest version. SD knows more than I do. I know how to build, correction, put a PC together with all the separate parts and such. Getting them going right is something else. If I remember right, you would basically be updating your Motherboards brain.
