Being of the older generation, I can tell you, that paddle got your attention, and still, the dropout rate was miniscule. Even the "hoodlums" graduated, and not with special courses that they have now.
While things aren't always black and white, that post hit home with me.
Do gooder since April 26, 2009!

Back when I was in school my father had me believing that if I was to get a paddling at school that the punishment at home would probably be worse than the one received at school and I never doubted that.

I never proved that at school but did recieve some at home not related to school.:o

The good old days. Didn't have to lock doors at night. Didn't have to lock yourself in your car when driving. I remember that first thing every morning a local minister would offer prayer over the PA system at school. Never got spanked at school but if I would have my parents would be more interested in what I did to deserve it and probably would have given me more to be sure I remembered not to do it again. Sure getting spanked hurts but I also think it helped to develop character. Now it is child abuse to spank a child even if they need it.

The last thing I ever wanted was for the phone to ring and it be the school. I still worry sometimes that my Dad is going to come out of his grave and get me.....and I'll be 50 on my next birthday.
    Birddog,

I pray that I may live to fish until my dying day. And when it comes to my last cast I then most humbly pray. When in the Lord's great landing net and peacefully asleep. That in His mercy I be judged, BIG ENOUGH TO KEEP.

This was absolutely true it shows how much this country has digressed, now days good is evil and evil is good, this is the greatest country on earth, but it is also a country of no common sense of what is right and wrong.

I use the "paddle" in my house. I wish everyone did! I ain't but 37 but my folks would give to me real good if I even got a talkin to at school, much less a paddlin. I cain't help but wonder why all these stupid child abuse laws keep gettin passed when the MAJORITY of the people feel the same way we all do???
